The term Palliate is derived from the latin word “Palliare” which means cover with a cloak or blanket. Palliative care is a speciality of medicine providing medical care and treatment to people with life limiting illnesses. These diseases include Advanced cancer, Advanced Lung, Heart and Brain diseases such as Pulmonary Fibrosis, Heart failure and Dementia respectively.
The goal of palliative care is to help patients relieve pain, manage their symptoms, and improve their overall well-being and quality of life. It also aims to provide comfort, support and guidance to the patient and families.
Palliative care can be provided at any stage of a Life limiting illness, and is not limited to end-of-life care. The care is administered in a multidisciplinary approach, meaning that it involves a team of healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, social workers, counsellors working together to provide comprehensive care.
